Jin Zhang graduated from the University of Sydney with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree. Before entering the legal profession, he spent several years working in financial services, banking and compliance in both Australia and the United States, developing strong experience in finance, client relationship management and regulatory compliance.
This background has shaped Jin’s practical and structured approach to family law matters.
When legal issues arise following separation, clients are often dealing with more than one issue at a time. Property, mortgages, companies, trusts, bank accounts, household expenses and parenting arrangements can all become intertwined. Jin works with clients to identify the key facts, financial information and issues that genuinely need to be resolved.
He helps clients distinguish between matters worth pursuing, issues that may be resolved through negotiation, and those that require formal legal proceedings. His focus is on helping clients understand their core interests and work towards practical, realistic and workable solutions.
Jin’s previous experience in banking, financial services, customer due diligence, AML/KYC, regulatory compliance and client relationship management also assists him in family law property matters involving complex financial records, companies, trusts, assets and the movement of funds.
In litigation matters, Jin has practical experience in family law financial disclosure, court documents, legal research and litigation-related drafting. He has also been involved in commercial disputes and other litigation matters. He places particular importance on clear and accurate legal drafting, ensuring that the Court, the other party’s lawyers and the client can clearly understand the issues, the outcome being sought and the basis for that position.
Family law also requires patience and clear communication. Jin takes the time to understand each client’s circumstances and helps clients separate the emotional aspects of a dispute from the factual and legal issues that need to be addressed. He believes clients should always understand where their matter stands and what needs to happen next.
In addition to family law, Jin has experience in commercial and corporate law, commercial litigation, wills, powers of attorney, probate and estate administration. This cross-disciplinary experience allows him to better understand matters involving family assets, business interests, estate planning and broader commercial issues.
Jin is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese and is able to assist clients in either language.
